Where did it all begin?
Since first researching a cake business many bloggers and cake business owners have written about how they started as cake bakers. A very high percentage have said that they were baking with their Mums and Grandmothers before they could even walk, or they trained as pastry chefs, or worked in a bakery straight after they finished year 12.
At first this made me feel quite down hearted because although my Mum and Grandmother were brilliant bakers, I unfortunately spent more time licking the cake bowl then mixing the batter for them.
But I can now confidently state and prove that it doesn't matter what you've done or haven't done in the past. If you have a dream, a passion and determination to succeed, it is possible. It didn't matter that I had little baking experience when I officially began Sweet Lucy because I spent most of this last year testing recipes over and over again. It also didn't matter that I had not run a business before because I spent hours with mentors both business and cake industry to gain the necessary skills and guidance to maximise my chance of success.
I'm no where near where I want to end up but that's OK because each and everyday I am learning so much about my craft and so much about me.
So what is your dream that is burning inside of you? What's holding you back from taking that first step towards your dream? Believe me as scary as that step is, it is so worth it, so worth the fear. Just know that you can be successful. It doesn't matter where you've come from, focus on where you want to be and who you want to be.
